Christian Abrahamsson is a Swedish artist whose practice combines sculptural installations and printmaking, often bringing the two mediums into dialogue. His work seeks perfection within imperfection, addressing themes of power, hierarchy, and structural injustice. At first glance, Abrahamsson’s works may appear simple and direct—black-and-white prints, heavy sculptures, and transformed objects that function as new statements. Upon closer inspection, however, they reveal a sense of humour, poetic sensitivity, and a deep care for the subjects they engage with.
The choice of materials and techniques is as important to Abrahamsson’s practice as the concepts behind the work. His metal sculptures and large-scale prints do not strive for technical perfection; rather, they emerge through careful consideration, craftsmanship, and an attentive engagement with process. He is particularly interested in the encounters that shape everyday life and the society people inevitably share. His work explores questions of belonging, community, and social cohesion, while examining what may be lost in an increasingly individualised and digitalised culture. Through his practice, Abrahamsson reflects on the effects of a society in which consumption and convenience increasingly replace interpersonal encounters.
Abrahamsson recently graduated from the Master’s Programme in Fine Arts at the Umeå Academy of Fine Arts. He previously earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts from HDK-Valand in Gothenburg and a Bachelor’s degree in Performing Arts Design from the Stockholm Academy of Dramatic Arts.
His work has been exhibited widely across Sweden, including at Bildmuseet in Umeå, Konsthall Väst på fjället in Bjurholm, Sandvikens Konsthall, Gislaveds Konsthall, Bohusläns Museum in Uddevalla, and the galleries Konstepidemin, Galleri 54, Drömmarnas Monument, and Detriti in Gothenburg. In autumn 2026, he will present an exhibition at Köttinspektionen in Uppsala.
Abrahamsson has received grants from several foundations, including Helge Ax:son Johnsons Stiftelse, Stiftelsen Otto och Charlotte Mannheimers fond, Kungliga och Hvitfeldska Stiftelsen, Stiftelsen Arnulfska stipendiefonden, Adlerbertska Stipendiet, and Orusts Sparbanks kulturstipendium. In addition to his visual arts practice, he has created artistic lighting designs for theatre productions, dance performances, concerts, museum exhibitions, and musicals, collaborating with institutions such as the Academy of Music and Drama in Gothenburg, Bohusläns Museum, Gothenburg City Theatre, Regionteater Väst, and Abrovink Dance Company.
