Bhatricya Virumann
Artist is based in: Estonia
Bhatricya Virumann (b. 1999) is an Estonian sculptor who graduated cum laude from Pallas University of Applied Sciences in Tartu (BA in Sculpture, 2022–2026), having also completed an exchange semester at the Pau Gargallo School of Sculpture in Spain in 2024. Her practice is rooted in a close engagement with natural materials and organic form, exploring the quiet dialogue between outdoors and the human interior — clay, stone and wood become pieces for both memory and bodily experience. Her work has been included in a number of group exhibitions in Estonia, among them Krõbinad karbis, a touring exhibition shown in libraries across the country (2023); Koopianäitus at Gallery Pallas (2023); Päritud valgus (Inherited Light), staged with the Estonian Sculptors’ Union as part of the TAVA24 light festival (2024); Kobarkollaps at the Tartu Botanical Garden (2025); and Sorry, I Just Woke Up at Gallery Pallas (2026). She has also worked as a curator, contributing to Prima Vista at the University of Tartu Library (2022) and to the TAVA light festival project “Ameerika mäed Ukrainale” (2023). In 2026 she did, being a go-author, her first permanent public commission, Kooskõla, a biodesign installation created for a park in central Tartu, addressing urban biodiversity and the interdependence of ecosystems. Her work has been recognised with the Amanduse Award for Best Young Sculptor, given by the Sculpture Department of Pallas University of Applied Sciences, and with the Pallas Arts Scholarship (2025). Alongside large-scale sculpture, Virumann maintains a parallel practice in small-scale design, making jewellery from salvaged tableware fragments and being a go-owner of Fragment Ehted. She has taught ceramics and led public art workshops.
