Amalia Wänmn Emerging artist

Artist is based in: Sweden

Amalia Wänmn creates large-scale sculptures that explore the tensions between inheritance, duty, and personal desire. Her works ask whether it is possible to separate the head from the body, duty from desire, or the past from the way one carries oneself in the present.

Wänmn’s sculptures emerge from text — she writes in images. In her work, inheritance may take the form of a slab of rock with two openings for the feet, or become an accumulation of heads, more like a tower than a family tree. Sand, clay, and pigments give the sculptures a near stone-like surface and an archaic, artifact-like presence. In her practice, the past is never fully gone; it remains at the edge of perception, shaping the body, memory, and belonging.
