Stīna Skulme (b. 1984) is a Latvian visual artist whose practice operates at the intersection of painting, archival photography, and memory studies. She has recently graduated with a Master’s Degree in Painting from the Art Academy of Latvia (2026), where she also completed her Bachelor’s studies.

Her academic and artistic research focuses on the concept of memory aberrations, investigating how modern critical theories and painters’ practices can deconstruct and reframe historical and personal images. Stīna Skulme’s work explores the tension between the photographic document and the volatility of human memory. In her large-scale canvases, she employs stain-painting and fluid acrylic techniques to visualize the entropy and decay of archival images, contrasting them with small, tactually precise oil paintings that act as new memory anchors. Her distinctive approach bridges abstract expressionism with contemporary conceptual figuration.

She has actively participated in exhibitions since 2022.
