Denisas Kolomyckis Emerging artist

Denisas Kolomyckis

Artist's country of origin: Lithuania

Denisas Kolomyckis is a dancer, actor and interdisciplinary artist, one of the performers who contributed to the revival of “site-specific” and “performance art” performances in Lithuania. Denisas studied at the National M. K. Čiurlionis School of Arts (Ballet department), continued his studies at the Conservatoire for Dance & Drama, London (UK), and finished BA and MA studies at Vilnius Academy of Arts, Sculpture Department. Denisas combines performance art, contemporary dance, theater and visual art. Over the past year, Denisas has created photography exhibitions, performances, paintings and installations related to human rights topics. His works of art have been exhibited at the Contemporary Art Center (Vilnius), Serpentine gallery (London), Microscope gallery (New York) and elsewhere, art project “Ona, Ona raise your skirt” have also been presented in The Guardian and other periodical cultural media channels. Denisas KOLOMYCKIS’ art – exceptional plasticity – determines that the artist’s work is closely related to dance. However, Denisas is a creative vagabond wandering through different media, and his main creative realm is theater rather than dance. The intensity and positive inconsistency of Denisas’ work suggests dilettantism, but it is only possible when the work is accompanied by pretentiousness. In Denisas’ case, no matter how ephemeral the works or the use of one creative expression seem, everything is a playful interpretation of the world, without claiming to please conceptual or formal canon. And, as banal as it may sound (almost like an electionoral promise), the love for humankind, makes Denisas a rare and highly political artist. He speaks directly about one of societys biggest flaws – the lack of social justice. (Emilija Švobaitė, Lithuanian Interdisciplinary Artists’ Association) Denisas Kolomyckis – graduated form Department of Sculpture at Vilnius Academy of Arts.
