Concrete Setting oscillates between despair and hope, where a material reality is linked with the notion of another possible future. Concrete translated into English is concrete , a conceptual term meaning real or tangible, but also the name of the material used by the Iranian regime to cover the mass graves of tens of thousands of dissidents.

Breaking up the concrete reveals the faces of some of the many victims of the recent Women Life Freedom uprising in Iran. A soundscape composed by Mohammad Reza Heydary explores the rhythms of life beneath the concrete layers. Representations of suspended women and girls, bound by Islamic laws, which prevent them from spiritual elevation and annihilate their bodies, femininity and individual identity.
In a world where despair triumphs over hope and aspiration, freedom turns into a metaphorical and dreamlike concept. Sadaf Ahmadi’s exhibition consists of two parts – Concrete and Setting.
