The works are grouped into themes that deal with animals as individuals, challenging coexistence with humans, changes in habitats and the agency of animals. The main role of the exhibition curated by HAM curator Sanna Juntunen is played by animals, with warmth and humor.
The dominant position of humans in relation to other living things has driven us to an accelerating species ceiling, which has serious consequences. Today’s artists often try to break this setting, and make our relationship visible. We cannot escape the limitations of being human, but wondering, empathy and accepting equality create hope for a better coexistence.
In connection with the exhibition, sociologist Salla Tuomivaara also discussed the animals that shine in visual art by their absence.
Despite the serious topics, the exhibition is easy to visit even with the youngest in the family – with the help of a separate animal trail, you can have adventures in the space through play and movement.
