Eric Cung presents award-winning works at the intersection of performance art and photography. Lost in (m)orbital thoughts is a surreal commentary on global selfie tourism. At the same time, it is an exploration of deceptive image storytelling and personal privacy in the digital age. What right do we get to our own identity when the face, which is the first and strongest expression of personal identification, is exploited?

The photographs are taken in spectacular locations around the world, where Eric is constantly present in the subject but has been rendered unidentifiable through a fictitious alter ego. The painstaking staging of each image is combined with a tangible element of chance – each image bears witness to the struggle the artist waged with the site’s environment and weather elements. Thus, they are marked by the spontaneous choices that the external situation demanded. Eric’s images are cinematic in nature and have been compared to American photographer Gregory Crewdson.
Eric Cung was born and raised in Stockholm and has a master’s degree from Konstfack.
Lost in (m)orbital thoughts is an ongoing project where Abecita Pop Art & Foto shows a selection of images taken during ten years of traveling during which the project developed and matured.
