The reading of Kosmos’ complex works is in a constant relationship of contradiction between the demand for an analyzing and calculating intellect on the one hand, and an associative and wild imagination on the other.
Endless Growth stands in a kind of visual span between control and chaos. His surrealistic and dreamlike pictorial universe is characterized by strict quality requirements for craftsmanship, where traditional techniques such as mezzotint and wood sculpture are treated with patience. The contrasts are substantiated with Kosmos’ use of cold tones against the warm and natural wood material, a medium he has worked with extensively over time. The exhibition examines these contradictory relationships through a wall drawing created especially for the occasion. The site-specific work grows together into a tableau of sculptures and works in various graphic techniques.
Both the title and the circle of motifs presented in the exhibition discuss the link between art and nature in light of an ongoing natural crisis, infinite economic growth is impossible given the ecosystems’ limitations. The dark theme almost expresses a natural dystopia, which is underpinned by the duality between a true to nature and aesthetic figuration on the one hand, and disturbing juxtapositions of people, animals and mutating plants on the other.
