Warhol was a graphic designer and his original livelihood was design. He worked with images and photography with a precise sense of color and form and elevated this expression to become art. Sometimes he made advertisements, sometimes he borrowed expressions from others to work with, sometimes it became “just” art, but basically everything was art – which left an impression.
In some ways, Warhol is constantly relevant and sometimes a cause for debate, to hate or to love.
Andy Warhol and Sweden have had a special relationship for over 50 years. Ever since Warhol’s first major exhibition outside the United States, which was shown at the Moderna Museet in Stockholm in 1968, Warhol’s influence has marked parts of Swedish artistic life. In some cases, artists have adopted Warhol’s style and in other cases they have actively distanced themselves from it. In some ways, Warhol is constantly relevant and sometimes a cause for debate, to hate or to love. In our time of fake news, influence campaigns, conspiracies, echo chambers and more, Andy Warhol’s approaches and methods appear more relevant than ever.
