In the new exhibition, as in previous collections, the works are based on the author’s personal experiences and reflections of the past, which sometimes touch on the psychological roots of the emergence of images.
“In a sense, I am doing an archaeology of my own mind. I analyse and delve into visual memory, its traces in our consciousness and, maybe to some extent, I touch on the system of archaic myths. I am also interested in the political and social history of different cultures and minorities.
I observe and study what visually remains in my memory, in our collective consciousness and subconscious, how images are distorted and changed, and to what extent they correspond to the actual reality. I try to find visual and linguistic connections between our personal experiences, different cultures and societies, to put together the fractals of different cultural layers and attitudes, and try to form it into a single structure that would allow us to evolve and grow.
In this exhibition there are also several works from the “Lines” series, which focuses on the subjects of migration, localisation, relocation. The characteristics of different countries and cities vary in terms of intensity and layering, but place, in a generic sense, is highly localised, i.e., the characteristics of a place are shaped by various networks of power and knowledge. And it is precisely because they are constructed, there is an opportunity to rethink the changing relationships between place, space, subject, process, locations, identities and their impact on each other.” (Dainius Trumpis)
