Marcus Ridung, native of Stockholm, is a social worker and visual artist. The face is a consistent motif in his artwork, which is dominated by charcoal and yarn. Tying ryos is in addition to an old exciting technique, a counterweight to the fast, he believes. The material in the textile works is wool yarn tied to fabric using a technique called Latch hooking. The number of knots is around 14,000 per work and the hours of tying are many.

Tying rya portraits is my way of turning fleeting encounters into a relationship. My way of offering some sort of remedy for my own lack of patience. But it is also my way of investing time in the subject’s soul. Once a face is attached, we know each other pretty well. Marcus Ridung has previously exhibited at galleries and art galleries in Stockholm, Västerås and Säter and is represented at the Mental Health Museum’s permanent exhibition in Region Dalarna.
