In her creative project “Moose Island”, Eglė Vertelkaitė analyses heritage, archives, traditions, memory and its continuity. She draws on the drawings, photographs and maps of her father, a hydraulic engineer. E. Vertelkaitė re-creates and interprets the authentic material of the family archives by means of fragmentation, ink and shellac casting. By changing their meanings and content, the author seeks to decode as many Lithuanian words as possible (place names, hydronyms), and to erase the names of places and territories that were recreated during the Soviet period. The exhibition is a testimony to a painful history and the belief that the search for a beautiful, idealistic landscape is not in vain. Meetings with Egle Vertelkaite will take place during the VGW. The artist will present her latest project, discuss it with the audience and answer the questions.
