Still lifes often depict food, utensils, different material qualities and domestic spaces or spaces seen as feminine, but also decomposition, oozing and waste, excess. Instead of the human figure or apparent action, the maker of still lifes focuses on strange beauty of mundane objects.
Iiris Kaarlehto
Iiris Kaarlehto is a Helsinki-based artist working with sculpture, object assemblage, moving image and text. In the works of Still Life with Basket of Fruit, she approaches ideas of the present, the everyday, and the practices that maintain it, as well as of ruins and historical accumulation.
The artist has been working with the support of Kone Foundation and Paulo Foundation.
