The aunt - of course she exists! Say the word aunt and in front of us we may see an older woman in a coat and hat, with a purse and ideals that are not swayed by temporary trends. The aunt in our collective consciousness stands for care, safety and reliability, utility, diligence and civil courage. No one else can speak up like the aunt when something is wrong.
The aunt’s world was the home and the family, and thus she has traditionally often been both made invisible and mocked. But over time, the aunt has come to get her revenge. Today we want to bring out our inner aunt and her ideal has become something aspirational.
During the spring of 2023, the Arbetets museum will show the exhibition Tanter!by the late photographer Bernt-Ola Falck. A series of never-before-seen photos, which with both humor and warmth portray a whole bouquet of wonderful aunts.
