Charlotta Hammar's photographs have an irresistible and ambiguous quality. At first glance, we see peaceful, idyllic scenes in attractive rainbow colours, but their seductiveness suddenly yields to something toxic and we realize that this is the lull before the storm.
In manipulated analogue color photographs that confront the viewer with reality and fiction, Hammar explores and portrays existential threats, uncertain futures and our lack of readiness for disaster. The title, Sound of Sirens , conveys the same duality, alluding to different alarm systems but also to the mythological marine creatures who lure sailors to their death in the deep sea.
