For over 50 years, Marika and CG Wachtmeister have built up a unique art collection in parallel with the creation of Wanå's art, one of Northern Europe's most fabled and valued sculpture parks with an international reputation. Now just over half of the collection's works are at Liljevalchs in the exhibition Hjärtahjärna between March 15 and September 29.

Marika and CG Wachtmeister started collecting art in the 1970s and today manage a collection of nearly 300 works. One of these is Monika Larsen Dennis’ glass sculpture Heartbrain (red) 1997, a molded heart the size of a brain. According to this heart-brain logic, the Wachtmeisters’ collection emerges, where the love of art is exchanged with a desire to understand our contemporary times.
The collection includes works by the artists who have created the most debate and attention internationally in recent decades: Louise Bourgeois, Nan Goldin, Nathalie Djurberg and Hans Berg, Andres Serrano, William Kentridge, Ann-Sofi Sidén and many more.
In an art collection, it is possible to trace both a collector’s interests and the currents of ideas of which the collection’s art is a part. Art helps us see ourselves and the world around us. What can we understand about the world, society and ourselves through a collection of contemporary art from the last 50 years?
