The art exhibition PAX – contemporary art for peace is created by Sörmland’s museum in close collaboration with artists together with Church of Sweden congregations, which lend their rooms to contemporary art. The visitor gets to see how contemporary art interacts with the church space, which for many signals spirituality and contemplation in a secularized world.
The exhibition presents a wide range of artists – both in terms of materials and practices. What they all have in common is that they work investigating, researching and are interested in existential and spiritual questions. In the exhibition, we will encounter rituals, form an invisible choir, be confronted with scrap from Lake Mälaren. We meet poetry, solid concrete, transparent borders, glass and mosaics and much more…
For the exhibition, Sörmland’s museum produces a catalogue, which during the period of the exhibition can be found in the participating churches. The catalog also presents the eight churches in texts and images produced by Sörmland Museum’s antiquarians. In addition, the philosopher Johan Redin has been invited to reflect on the concept of peace – a both simple and complicated concept, which can be about external as well as internal conditions, about small and large events. In connection with the exhibition, artist talks are arranged in the eight churches. During the conversation, we get the opportunity to listen to and gain in-depth knowledge about the artist and the artworks displayed in each church.
