The year 2022 marks the 150th birhday of our outstanding painter Vilhelms Purvītis. The National Art Museum has staged the exhibition „Purvītis”, but the gallery Daugava is celebrating this jubilee year with the exhibition cycle Dramaturgy of Landscape inviting the viewers to enjoy the interpretation of nature in contemporary painting. Artists are still painting the melting snow, birch groves, meadows and river bays. Nature has been a source of inspiration for creators of poems, music and art throughout the ages. Purvītis painted not only the Latvian landscape; his canvases also glorify the urban landscape of Riga, Rēvele, Rēzekne, Dubulti and Majori. The display includes the panorama of Riga, Valdemara street, the roofs of Old Riga, Pārdaugava, Ķīpsala, centre and suburbs of Riga and towns of Latvia. Several canvases offer townscapes of Western Europe, certainly of the artists’ beloved city of Venice as well.
