On Gotland, plantations of tens of thousands of mulberry trees were established between 1830-1850, on the initiative of the Society for Domestic Silk Cultivation. The exhibition Morus, at Galleri Apoteket in Roma Kungsgård, takes place on a site where mulberry trees were grown in orangeries in the 18th century. At the time, the gallery was a pharmacy. The history of the room links the artists to the women who used herbs and threads for medicinal purposes, who were convicted in the witch trials in Visby in 1705.
The artists collaborate with the Agricultural University of Athens, as scientific advisers and educators. In September 2023, the Morus project travels to northern Greece, to be exhibited at the Ethnological Museum of Thrace in Alexandroupoli, as well as the Silk Museum of Soufli (PIOP). With the support of the Artists’ Board.
