A story about freedom, about love and about those who try to prevent it. Perhaps out of fear of it. Liberation is a unique exhibition as it tells the story of a sex change that was destroyed in 1983 and a sex change that forty years later shows that we have come further together. The human rights to choose who you are and how you want to live have increased. The opportunity to criticize and go beyond the gender prisons that trap us has increased. But of course there is resistance. Of course there is hatred. But above all there are people who fight for freedom to increase. Who want to free us from our own fears.

Liberation is about two sex changes. Both in the spotlight, the public eye that everyone can see. Johan Jenny Ehrenberg tells honestly and personally about a journey that many have made but that has rarely been so documented. Pictures of Hatte Stiwenius from 1983 are combined with new pictures of Håkan Elofsson in 2023. Conversations, films, old and new interviews and speeches to the nation. Together it becomes a story, not just about changing gender, going from man to trans woman, but fundamentally about something even bigger. About being gender-bending.
