Catja Tonberg, recipient of Bror Hjorthföreningen's drawing scholarship 2024, is in her final year of the master's program in Free Art at HDK-Valand in Gothenburg.
Bror Hjorthföreningen's drawing scholarship is intended to encourage promising young draftsmen at the country's art schools and Art Unions. One purpose of the scholarship is also to highlight the importance of drawing for Bror Hjorth and as an independent artistic means of expression, as well as recalling Bror Hjorth's work as a professor of drawing at the Art Academy.
Catja Tonberg, Queering the Flora, 2024
The scholarship was established in 1992 and was initially annual, but since 2012 it has been awarded every two years to a student at one of the country’s five art colleges. Two candidates are nominated by each school’s teachers. The scholarship recipient is selected by a jury consisting of representatives from Bror Hjorths Association and Bror Hjorths Hus. In addition to a scholarship sum, the scholarship also includes an exhibition at Bror Hjorths Hus.
