Ulf Lundkvist can rightly be called one of the "grand old men" of the Swedish comics world. His popular figures in the Assar series have been a recurring feature in Dagens Nyheter for decades. On November 25, Ulf Lundkvist will open a new solo exhibition at Arbetets museum and at the same time receive this year's EWK award.
Ulf Lundkvist was born in 1952 in Norrköping, but grew up in Stockholm’s southern suburbs. He is educated at Konstfack and published his first book in 1977 with schoolmate Alf Tjällskog. Since then there have been many more books. His figures in the series Assar have been a constantly recurring feature in Dagens Nyheter since 1990.
Nowadays, Ulf Lundkvist lives in Krokek outside Norrköping. Ulf Lundkvist is the 2023 winner of the EWK prize, which is awarded by the EWK society in collaboration with Fullersta Gård and Arbetets museum.
