“I remember the first time I came into contact with Carina Hedlund. Even though it was many years ago, I am still filled with the feeling that arose in a fraction of a second. Her photos of pub life in Dublin inspired me and gave me another dimension of Street Photography.
It was actually a coincidence that Carina ended up in Dublin. She lives in Skellefteå and works as a social worker alongside photography. She appreciates the beautiful nature of Ireland, but it is the people that attract her back, time and time again.
From not being a frequent pub visitor at home in Skellefteå, she has become obsessed with Irish pub culture with her camera in hand. From the familiar and calm atmosphere at lunchtime when friends meet for conversation, to the atmosphere in the evenings where genuine music is a permanent feature.
It is an environment where she now blends in naturally. Her respect for people and love of human encounters have made her many friends over the years and also make it easier for her to work as a photographer. In her photography, Carina is both a participant and an observer. It often starts with photographs of unknown people, but with her interest in those she meets, she often gets close and shares their stories. You can experience fragments of this in this exhibition.
She was recently nominated in the Dublin Street Photography Festival and in the future there is a planned book project about one of the pubs in Dublin.”
