This time she takes us to Sicily and the infamous city of Palermo. She has stayed here for a longer period of time on several occasions, taking a place in reality and being part of everyday life. Palermo is a mythical city. It is rough, hard and worn, but at the same time very beautiful. The Sicilian mafia, Cosa Nostra, is very much present. There are of course a lot of tourists there, but if you just take a step to the side you are in the middle of real life. Religion is strong, just like people’s pride and integrity. To succeed as a street photographer in that environment, you have to be a social chameleon.
Birgitta is a person who stands out. With her long silver-white hair, she becomes an exotic part of the areas where she moves. Many times in areas and neighborhoods where few tourists go. But she does it with a humble obviousness, which is reflected in her image creation. Her ability to get close to the unvarnished reality is admirable. These are pictures you don’t normally see, so take your time, look at each picture and let yourself be absorbed in the details. The fact that it is also the first time she is exhibiting these works as a whole is extra exciting.
