Endless horizon lines, extreme cold, wind and ice, collective memories and barren coastal areas. Based on an artistic, humanistic and scientific perspective, the Danish architectural firm Dorte Mandrup creates buildings that are firmly rooted in the places they are erected. It is not about sentimentality but rather about a need to give something meaningful back to each place and to increase knowledge about it. The exhibition PLACE is the architect's love letter to the context and invites the visitor to explore and unearth the specific stories that inspired them in four unique architectural projects.
Dorte Mandrup, The Whale, Andøya, Norge
The projects are presented in Liljevalch’s halls in the form of sculptural models that highlight the dialogue between place and building and which, like Stockholm, have a relationship with water. The visitor is taken on a journey through four different locations, from the tawny wetlands of the Wadden Sea to the breathtaking expanses of the Arctic and the enigmatic underwater landscape of the Norwegian Sea. In addition to the models, the exhibition contains objects, materials and studies that give the visitor an insight into Dorte Mandrup’s creative process and how the agency relates to the context.
