Explosive technological development and several global crises have left their mark on society in recent decades. How do such upheavals affect the architects and the way they work?
In the exhibition, this is examined through a selection of drawings and installations. The oldest works presented were created around the time of the global financial crisis in 2008. In the aftermath of the crisis, a younger generation of architects started to work more locally, collectively and non-commercially. The newest drawings on display are made by architects who established themselves in the time around the corona pandemic.
Technological innovations, new software and computers affect the way architects work with their profession. Today, most people draw with digital drawing tools and not by hand. What the drawings shown in the exhibition have in common is that they are in various ways critical of the computer’s aesthetics.
The exhibition includes drawings by around 40 Norwegian and foreign architectural offices. In addition, three installations are presented, created by the architectural firms Søstra100, LCLA and Secretary. In the installations, the role of drawing in architecture – and the role of architecture in society – is thematized.
