Here, artists are presented who take us to situations and conditions beyond reason and logic but which at the same time reflect our times. Together they highlight a theater of the incomprehensibility of life on the surrounding everyday scene and combine a subtle resistance with a quest for freedom.
In addition to new productions and works by contemporary artists, such as Monster Chetwynd and Kris Lemsalu, among others, the exhibition also contains artworks from the Moderna Museet’s collection, for example by Francis Picabia, Ralph Eugene Meatyard and Greta Knutson-Tzara. In this way, the exhibition presents a range of different artistic methods, techniques and eras, and not least works that are closely related to theater and drama. What the artists have in common is an approach and attitude where humour, provocation, playfulness and seriousness intertwine – spontaneously, directed or perhaps randomly. During the exhibition period, a number of performance works are performed. A publication about the exhibition is published and will be available from the opening day.
