BOOKED 2022 is an exhibition devoted to books made by artists, conceptual literature and text-based artworks that is organized by MUU, Finland’s interdisciplinary art association. The exhibition will be presented at MUU Helsinki Contemporary Art Centre in the Cable Factory, 28 November — 18 December 2022.
BOOKED will host over 200 artist’s books, limited edition publications and artworks. Produced by an international selection of artists working in Finland, the Nordic countries and further afield, the majority of these new and recent creations were curated from the many responses to our Open Call. The exhibition also features a selection of new works from the Estonian Art Academy (EKA) and a brief historical overview drawn from the RikArt collection.
The Open Call, which provided a window into current practice, confronted the jury with a daunting task. Faced with choosing from a range works that included handcrafted objects, zines, prints and poster works, innovative approaches to literature, and digital productions, the undertaking proved stimulating. The jury — composed of Rita Leppiniemi, who works in diverse media, Miikka Laihinen, Chief Editor at Nokturno, which presents digital, experimental and cross-disciplinary literature, and John Gayer, an artist and writer — has brought together a diverse and intriguing array of artists’ books, installations and related forms of art.
