The name of the exhibition Periferium refers to an imaginary place that is somewhere far away in the hinterland. It gets its name from the word periphery, which means something outside the center or outlying. I paint the wonderful, fairytale-like and fertile terrain that is everywhere around us but somehow in the shadows. I liken Periferium to dreams, myths, wild nature and moonlight. Even though I’m talking about places and outlying areas, I think Periferium is primarily a metaphor for something in our minds and thinking. The focus of awareness focuses on a few things at a time, and many interesting things remain outside the focus. They are in darkness but still exist and at some future moment they will end up in the light again.
