Kim Ove Olsen with the stage name KOO has painted most of his life. His working life as a director in the investment industry did not go hand in hand with a life as an active and exhibiting artist. That is why he first presented his works to the public in 2019, where the solo exhibition ‘The Other Side’ drew many curious visitors past RO’s Gallery in Roskilde’s old gasworks.
The outlet for KOO’s art is almost always drawn from the intersection between society, politics and history. The work process is driven by moods and emotions that have often arisen as a result of concrete events in the world – such as the inauguration of Trump as president, the war in Ukraine or when reading the Nobel Prize-winning book “The Zinc Boys” by the Belarusian author Svetlana Aleksievich.
In addition, KOO’s works are largely driven by a fascination with colors, shapes, patterns – the graphic expression of things and states. Kim Ove Olsen finds other sources of inspiration for his works in the encounter with old cultures and foreign landscapes.
