The Canadian-born, Ukrainian-descended and entirely local sculptor, illustrator and textile artist Laura Piasta lets her drifting and solid sculptures come together to form a spell on the human relationship to materials and objects. She creates networks of meaning that span time, country, body and meaning.

Laura Piasta (1981) was born in Burnaby, Canada and now lives in Tävelsås outside Växjö. She works primarily with sculpture, drawing and textiles and is drawn to traditional materials and processes such as bronze casting, weaving and stone carving. Through these materials and techniques, she approaches philosophical questions about ideas that are embedded in contemporary culture. In addition to her artistic work, she is also the head teacher of sculpture at Kronoberg Art School outside Växjö.
