The exhibition Lars Wallin Atelier – 35 Years of Fashion Stories invites visitors into Wallin’s universe. Here you get to know the fashion designer’s everyday life in the atelier through personal stories about sources of inspiration, meetings with customers and collaboration with skilled tailors who, with years of experience, create Lars Wallin’s dreamlike creations.
The exhibition provides a unique insight into the creative process. Wallin talks in detail about the different stages of the craft – from the tools and machines used to how to handle a beaded fabric that is so delicate that it must be sewn by hand.
Visitors can follow Wallin to all corners of the world and hear exciting stories from the fashion world – from visits to studios in Paris to the story of a unique coat covered in 80 meters of swan down that was completed just hours before the garment was to be shown on the catwalk.
– In an age of quick solutions, it feels extra important to highlight the craft I love – couture. The passion for beautiful fabrics, timeless design and details that take time. To be able to celebrate my 35 years as a designer with this anniversary exhibition at Artipelag feels fantastic. This is my most personal exhibition where visitors can follow me on the creative journey in the studio. It feels especially important today to contribute to making the world a little more beautiful, says designer Lars Wallin.
The exhibition is curated by Lars Wallin and includes over 140 unique and handmade couture dresses, wedding dresses and stage garments from the designer’s personal archive as well as loans from private clients’ wardrobes, where many creations have never before been shown to the public.
