Astroturf, steel, drill, bearings, cable ties, birch plywood, arduino, electronics Turf burner is a kinetic sculpture that is part of the installation ”Gray Terrain”. The motor operates in a continuous loop: 2 minutes of stillness followed by 10 seconds of motion. I imagine that this found, previously used, resembling artificial grass material carries traces of sweat, perhaps even tears. I see the imprints of cleats pressed into it; I recall the bursts of speed, the falls, the exertion, the frustration, and the direct attacks on the material itself: a kick, a tear, a scrape. It transports me to sports fields, to childhood, to sports class and a range of emotions once experienced.
