Time To Wait For Another Century, 2026

“Time To Wait For Another Century” is an attempt to reconstruct a drawing by Antanas Žmuidzinavičius, donated a century ago to the St. Nicholas Children’s Home in Vilnius, in which—as described in Pranė Makariūnienė’s memoir “In Vilnius and the Vilnius Region, 1915–1939,” depicts the artist’s great-grandfather Jonukas, who was still a minor at the time. The painting, which once hung above the piano in the study room, becomes a new, personal interpretation of the era, recalling the old residents of Vilnius and the stories that, after several generations, meet again in the same city. Balancing between patches of uncertainty and remaining fragments, an attempt is made to bring them under control, in the hope that the various surrounding rumors, having taken the form of a work of art, may have a better chance of surviving. The drawing was created in collaboration with artist Liudvikas Kesminas.
