The Keeper/Sekretären is about a bureau— (sekretär from the word secrétaire, meaning person responsible for e.g. secret things). The bureau was filmed while clearing out a home of a deceased family member. Once owned by family, now gone, somewhere, belonging to someone else. Through videotaping the bureau, I captured the moment when it still existed in the home, making it somewhat eternal. The repeated gesture of opening and closing becomes a way of remembering, of holding on to memory. The hand continues to search although the drawers have been emptied a long time ago. Exhibited during the graduation exhibition “’Allt sjunger s/om fantomer’’ 2026, at Gallery Verkligheten, Umeå.
