Metaphysical art has existed directly and in this form for over a century, and photographic techniques for even longer. The goal of my final project is to explore how metaphysics manifests in photography—while also filling a visual and textual research gap—defining the possible characteristics of metaphysical photography and creating a photo series that applies these characteristics. In my work, I analyze the key features of metaphysical painting (pittura metafisica), examine the possible translation of these features into photography, and explore who has previously attempted such a translation.
