Me, My aunt and Granddad, 2023

1 x 1 cm

3 screens installation

I always thought about death. But the fear of it as a perception of fear, came much later. It wasn’t when I was clutching the sheets in childhood, worried that my parents would die while I am sleeping. It was when my sister, studying psychology, bought and handed me the Irvin D. Yalom’s book “Staring at the Sun: Overcoming the Terror of Death”. Then I grabbed it from the shelf and read, and while reading I did not overcome my fear, but I gained it. A three-screen installation titled ‘Me, My Aunt, and Granddad.’ Three stories: the legend of my grandfather’s death, the narrative of my aunt’s funeral, and a story about a decomposing body. Using photographs of my grandfather, aunt, and my own childhood, with the help of AI programs, I manipulate them, conveying the stories through the characters.
