oil on canvas
Works I presented in my master’s degree graduation exhibition, Kuvan Kevät 2026, consist of one large-scale oil painting, Atelier, and two freestanding, human-shaped oil paintings installed on the floor, Clara and Lucy. Atelier depicts a scene from an artist’s studio. Together with the other works, it constructs a stage-like situation in the exhibition space, where Clara and Lucy stand on the floor in front of it, appearing as if they have been detached from the larger painting, while at the same time imitating visitors and viewers of the exhibition and observing the other works in the exhibition space. The series of works is built up in layers from multiple images and details, which reference both art history and contemporary painting practices. (Photographs 1 Marjaana Rantala. 2 by the artist.)
