Liquid Swords , 2025
oil on canvas, glass
Liquid Swords is an installation in which fragments of painting and glass act as a layered, rhythmic montage. I use images from nature as a material – I cut, move, distort and construct them through deconstruction. The surface of the painting and glass collapses here – it is unstable, fragile, changing, becoming a fragile, almost transparent structure. The title refers to the GZA album, but the most important thing is not the allusion, but the structural link. Just as GZA creates poems out of sections, codes and layers, so in my work the images are formed through overlapping, disrupting, rewriting meaning. The sword becomes not only a metaphor for chopping up an image, but also a symbolic action – a resistance to empty aesthetics, to the superficial gaze. The departure from the picture frame, the installation elements and interdisciplinarity question the autonomy of the image itself. On the one hand, I am creating, on the other hand, I am scraping it to pieces, turning it into an open-air hallucination. This duality – creation and destruction – is reminiscent of the myth of Saturn, and helps us to see another oxymoron hidden a little deeper. The installation was presented in a solo exhibition at the Art Niche Gallery in Vilnius (2025).
