Far & Few, far & few, 2024
Recorded performance, Art video 5 minutes 44 seconds
Far & few , Far & few work started as a text transformed into a recorded performance and video installation. It is part of long-term artistic research about generational trauma of slavery after-life in United Arab Emirates and my family history. And the work is based on oral history documentation and narrative weaving practice. The work is part of two other installation that speaks about the discovery of oil and its relations to the abolishment of slavery back in 1960’s and the body of water a memory vessel of amendments. I attempt to shed further light on the boundary between a ‘proper history’ and various kinds of fabulation – Critical Fabulation by Saidiya Hartman. The installation was planned as part of a group show, in which I built a vacuum space in that invites the viewer to look, contemplate and to be intimate with the topic.
