Ant house, 2024

50 x 50 cm

oilpaint on linen

Ants have been a reappearing subject in my works for some years. For me they are both a symbol of home or familiarity, and something nearly eternal. Something that goes beyond our understanding but in a low key, everydayish way. Also, the shape is quite nice. On the other hand the painting is an attempt to capture the harsh beautiful early spring light after the snow has just left and revealed the ground. The work was exhibited as part of the MFA show in Kuva/Tila gallery Helsinki. Photo: Anna Autio
