ALMA, 2024

1377 x 528 cm

Sand, Clay

The aim of the work: the correspondence of the sacred value of the material to the concept- the inhabitation of the space. This work is about the interaction with time and space. It explores the relationship between a grand granddaughter and the grand grandmother Alma, who has left behind her many unanswered questions. Alma – the nurturer, the giver of blessings (Latin), the soul (Spanish). To embark on a journey into the depths of family’s soul, the author of the work uses one of the oldest and most sacred materials – sand. By moulding it into various forms, it is transformed into patterns of a carpet, street networks, places of memory, mystical structures, and mythical figures, highlighting the idea that what makes a person most intriguing are the things that even they do not know about themselves.
