Tomelilla is widely known for its beautiful art gallery. Tomelilla art gallery was built in 1965 and was one of Sweden's first art galleries to be built out in the countryside. The architects for this beautiful building were Jan Löfqvist and Kurt Hultin from Malmö. In connection with the municipality building a new library, the art gallery was also added with the help of state funds.
Governor Bengt Petri inaugurated the buildings and King Gustaf Adolf was present as guest of honor. During 2007 and 2008, the art gallery underwent renovation and expansion in collaboration with the architectural firm NP-arkitekter Ystad. Today, in addition to the large hall upstairs, there are also 3 exhibition rooms on the lower level.
