Malmö Art Museum was founded in 1841 and is located next to the beautiful 16th-century castle Malmöhus. On Slottsholmen there is one of Sweden's largest art collections of around 40,000 works from the 16th century until today.
The art collection mainly consists of art, handicrafts and art industrial objects from the Nordic countries from the 16th century until today. But also international art, such as the unique Russian works from the Baltic exhibition in Malmö in 1914, can be found in the art museum's collection . During the last 20 years, the art museum has actively collected Nordic contemporary art.
