Pro Artibus Foundation is an expert organisation for contemporary art. We manage an art collection and run two exhibition spaces: Gallery Elverket in Ekenäs and Sinne in Helsinki. We support artistic practices, and work with and for a wide audience.
Pro Artibus Foundation seeks to promote the development of Finnish-Swedish culture and art in Finland. We own, administer, expand, and facilitate access to a collection of 1300 artworks consisting mainly of works by Swedish-speaking Finns. Three areas form the core of Pro Artibus’ work: art collecting, supporting artistic work, and facilitating access to art.
Pro Artibus Foundation engages in wide-ranging information and education work on visual art in the form of exhibitions, publications, public occasions, collaborative projects and other art events. The Foundation operates throughout Swedish-speaking Finland, but with three centres: Vaasa, Ekenäs and Helsinki. The old power plant in Ekenäs houses an office and exhibition spaces, along with a conservator’s studio. In Ekenäs Pro Artibus also has an artist’s residence, Snäcksund, with two separate residency venues: The Villa and The Croft. Pro Artibus runs Sinne, a space for contemporary art, at Iso Roobertinkatu 16 in Helsinki. In Vaasa the Foundation has an artist’s residence and an art-education collaboration with the Faculty of Education and Welfare Studies at Åbo Akademi University – Vasa. Furthermore, the Foundation arranges travelling exhibitions in Finland and the other Nordic countries.
The Foundation is a member of the Finnish Museums Association, KULTA ry – a Central Organization for Finnish Culture and Arts Associations, Association of Finnish Fine Arts Foundations, and Helsinki International Artist Programme (HIAP). Pro Artibus Foundation is an independent organization affiliated with the Foundation for Swedish Culture in Finland.
