Our Baltic Sea, the North Sea of the Germans and Danes, the East Sea of the Swedes and Finns, the White Sea of the Lithuanians and Latvians, have both divided and united the peoples living on its shores. The stormy century before last inspired August Strindberg to paint the Baltic Sea at night alongside his great novels. Jaan Oad, who fled to the West from the last war, painted the history of his home island of Kihnu when he arrived in Canada.
Almost all men and women along the Baltic Sea like to dance and make love to the waltz tune of “Waves of the Baltic Sea” by the German poet Martha Müller-Grählert and composer Simon Krannig.
Our nude exhibition this summer confirms that it is also pleasant to paint to the accompaniment of this undulating melody until one reaches a lonely birch tree on one’s path…
The secret wish of the creators of our XXXIII nude exhibition is that the Baltic Sea will remain a sea of peace forever.
