The exhibition Wildflowers can be read as an unwritten coming-of-age novel in pictorial form. With closeness and distance through the camera, Cathrine Wessel has captured the main character Mathias and his changing group of friends, from child to adult through countless summer days on an island in the sea. The photographs convey in a subtle way the transition from childlike innocence, via play and closeness in early puberty, to the more complex social relationships of adolescence.
Cathrine Wessel’s beautiful and poetic camera view of the group of friends over eight summers is both touching and universally recognisable.
The unique photographs depict and document untamed bodies in growth, boys and girls who grow out of step, buds that burst, voices that crack, and a dawning sexual awakening.
The exhibition will contain 50 analogue photographs, as well as video and installations.
