Metropol Gallery presents:
Anete Lomp
„WHERE’S THE RUSH?”
4.2.2023- 5.3.2023
Galleries Metropol 6 m2 and Metropol Cabinet
Opening event on Saturday, February 4 at 6 pm.
Anete Lomp paved her artistic path with graphics, sketchbooks and establishing of a gallery without walls. In spite of current horrible road conditions, she will bring a peculiar mixture of reality and its surreal mental suspension to both Metropol gallery exhibition spaces.
The backbone of the exhibition is the connection between wildlife and being human.
What would it be like to be a goat that jumped out of the forest onto the road in front of the headlights?
I ran into a wild goat, ran him over with a car?
I’m the goat that got run over by a car? What if the goat is driving and I’m on the road?
How can you hibernate?
Did Anna get hit by the Tartu train? Anete’s work got under the tram? Can I hibernate please?
Background of the works is the artificial modification of the natural landscape around us and the natural processes taking place in the environment. For example, clear-cutting has caused the extinction of some species and the abundance of others. Of the ungulates, wild goats die the most in road accidents every year, on average 4-5 goats per day. They can’t fit in the forest anymore, so more of them get hit by cars. Hibernation is part of the annual cycle of animals such as bears and raccoons in our climatic zone. They sleep and store energy when there is not enough nutrients. People are simply depleted of vitamin D during the winter period, without supplemental vitamin D intake they are always tired and bearly function. IT’S TIME TO FALL ASLEEP!
These metamorphoses have taken the form of drawings, objects and installation in the exhibition, permeating from one art form to another. You are invited to join this trip!
