Unski Immonen (b. 1981), based in Varkaus, Finland works multidisciplinary with painting and painting animations. Now he is working on artificial intelligence-assisted animations. From 2021 to 2021 he worked with an annual grant from the Finnish Cultural Fund’s Pohjois-Savo fund. 2021 Immonen participated in Mikkeli Art Museum’s The M_itä? Biennale of Contemporary Art with AR works, held two solo exhibitions and participated in the Ääreen – documentary in animation project. The most recent solo exhibitions were at Gumbostrand Konst & Form 2021 and Helsinki at MUU Galleria 2020.
Immonen graduated with a master’s degree in visual arts from the Academy of Fine Arts in 2015 and Taidekoulu Maa in 2011. He is a member of MUU ry, Finnish Painters’ Union, Ars Libera, Helsinki Artists’ Association and Yö ry.
Immonen’s artistic work has been supported by the Finnish Cultural Foundation’s North Savo Regional Fund and the Arts Promotion Centre Finland, The Arts Council of North Savo.
Jussi Meuronen (b. 1982, Hämeenlinna, Finland) lives and works in Helsinki. He studied at Taidekoulu MAA and graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts in the summer of 2016 with a master’s degree in fine arts. He has been active as a visual artist since 2011. In his work, Meuronen deals with topics surrounding humanity: its dark side, constant changes, loneliness and the brevity of life itself. The daily influx of information and stimuli inspire him and the visual observations derived from them make their way into his work. In his paintings Jussi Meuronen uses various techniques and materials with collage painting, a mixture of both analogue and digital, being the core medium.
For the pieces prepared for the exhibition Meuronen worked on the themes of loneliness, being an outcast and facing the unknown. He is especially focused on feelings of love and hate, while simultaneously giving space to both fear and inspiration, the familiar and unfamiliar, at the core of his work.
Reality and its norms are maintained by illusion and facades. Meuronen is not attempting to depict this reality, but to see what lies beyond. The distortion and manipulation of differing views present an opportunity to fracture the way in which reality is experienced.
In 2020 and 2021 Meuronen has been creating mixed media paintings which combine photography, collage and acrylic paint. The works consist of pieces of different events and states of mind which also represent the fragmented and unpredictable nature of life itself.
